About This Work

Phil’s *Knott Untitled: Amy Winehouse* distils the singer’s iconic presence into a taut, contemporary portrait that feels both intimate and mythic. Working with a “knotted” visual language—layered marks, binding lines, and deliberate disruptions—Phil builds a surface where gesture functions like rhythm, echoing Winehouse’s phrasing and emotional intensity.

The artist’s approach sits at the intersection of street-informed immediacy and studio refinement, using contrast and textural density to suggest glamour, vulnerability, and resilience without resorting to literal narrative. More than a celebrity depiction, the work reads as cultural iconography: a meditation on fame, voice, and the modern British canon.

A compelling piece for collectors of contemporary portraiture and music-inspired art.
